ONE supports the needs of Irish veterans by the provision of accommodation to homeless veterans and the provision of other advice and support through its nationwide network of Branches and Veteran Support Centres.
The Fuchsia Appeal, which commenced in 2009, is run annually to raise funds for the ONE’s Charitable objects, namely the provision of accommodation and other assistance to ex-service personnel in need.
The main drive of the appeal takes place during the month of July which is the month of the National Day of Remembrance, but is a year round appeal.
The fuchsia flower was chosen as it is widely grown throughout Ireland and is commonly known as Deora Dé or God’s Tears in the West of Ireland.
The Fuchsia emblem is a fundraising emblem, a badge of remembrance and a symbol to honour those currently serving in the Defence Forces.
The Fuchsia badge is now sold as part of the fundraising initiative and under the emblem is stamped the word ‘Cuimhnímis’ – ‘Remember Those Who Served’ in remembrance of those who have served and to the many who made the ultimate sacrifice with their lives while serving.
The Fuchsia emblem is now used as a badge of remembrance and a symbol to honour those currently serving in the Defence Forces.
The Fuchsia Appeal will be launched on the 21st September 2023 and finish at the Defence Forces Coffee Mornings, which will be held in Defence Forces barracks/posts/ships and in other locations on Friday 29th September and alternatively on 6th October 2023.
