Óglaigh Náisiúnta na hÉireann (ONE) provides Support, Comradeship, Advocacy and Remembrance (SCAR) for Irish Veterans

ONE is a company limited by guarantee (328824) and a charity registered with both the Charities Regulatory Authority (RCN: 20044268) and the Revenue Commissioners (CHY 13868).

ONE has a board of Directors elected by members, which in turn is led by a Chairman. As with all boards the legal person responsible to ensure all governance and procedure is adhered to is our Company Secretary.

The Chief Executive Officer reports to the Board and is responsible for the overall day-to-day administration of the Company and the management of its staff. The Head Office is located in the ONE flagship Homeless Hostel, Brú na Bhfiann, in Smithfield Market, North King Street, Dublin 7

ONE was founded in Mansion House on 10 March 1951 and unified
  • National Federation of Irish Ex-Servicemen.
  • Association of Regular Ex-Servicemen.
First President Lt Gen M.J. Costello.

Original Goals

  • Comradeship – “maintenance of old bonds”.
  • Facilitate work of the Army Benevolent Fund
Support ONE supports the needs of Irish veterans by the provision of accommodation to homeless and other veterans in need of such domestic accommodation in its Veterans’ Homes and the provision of other assistance to veterans through its nationwide network of Branches and Veterans’ Support Centres.

Comradeship

  • To develop a spirit of comradeship among veterans, and between veterans and serving members of Óglaigh Na hÉireann.
  • To foster public interest in Óglaigh Na hÉireann.
  •  To promote social and cultural activities.

Advocacy

  • To advocate with the Department of Defence, Defence Forces, and other elements of national and local government on behalf of veterans.
  • To maintain liaison with veterans’ organisations of other states.

Remembrance

  • To remember those who served.
  • To participate in national and local remembrance ceremonies.
